Model-Data Synthesis of Terrestrial Responses to Elevated CO2: Phase 2 of an ongoing collaboration between ecosystem and global modelers and empirical scientists from long-term CO2 enrichment experiments. DOE, 2012-2014. (Co-PI, PI: Rich Norby, ORNL)

Our team from Ecolab of Dr. Yiqi Luo is developing an analytic framework to dissect modeled carbon storage capacity into a few tractable components, which include environmental space, environmental scalars that map the environmental space into effect size space for carbon processes, baseline residence time derived from model parameters, ecosystem carbon residence times, and net primary productivity. Using this framework, differences among models being used in a free-air CO2 enrichment (FACE) intercomparison will be attributed into those components so as to isolate sources of variations among model projections.
