Dr. Qingwei Sun is currently a visiting scholar at NAU. His research focus on the impact of climate change to local ecosystem and livelihood. Between 2017 and 2018, he was visiting scholar at UC Berkeley, where he studied the environment crisis and its impact to local communities in steppe China. Before that he has been the Director of National Geographic Society China Office. He oversaw a $ 5 million Air and Water Conservation Fund. By supporting local communities and citizen science, the fund helped improve air and water conservation in China. Between 2003 and 2010, Dr. Sun has been an associate professor and assistant professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research included desert and desertification in north China and ecosystem degradation caused by climate change in China arid regions. Dr. Sun received a Ph.D of physical geography from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2004, and he received his bachelor degree of physical geography from Lanzhou University in 1998.
