Carbon and Nitrogen Interaction

Carbon and nitrogen interactions likely modulate terrestrial ecosystem response and feedback to climate change. The carbon-nitrogen-climate feedback has recently been assessed with global models. Research in Dr. Luo's lab is to examine experimental evidence on nitrogen regulation of ecosystem carbon sequestration, particularly carbon sequestration in soil, in response to elevated CO2, warming, and nitrogen fertilization. We used a variety of methods, such as manipulative climate change experiments (e.g.,), data synthesis and meta-analysis, and ecosystem and global modeling, to understand carbon-nitrogen interactions in context of climate change.
